The School of Law – Dhirubhai Ambani University, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), hosted a National Seminar on “Igniting Your Startup: A Deep Dive Into Entrepreneurship and IPR” on December 6, 2024, at the EDII campus. The event welcomed lawyers, entrepreneurs, and policy professionals from Gujarat, alongside online participants from across India.
After a wonderful introductory address by Prof. Satya Ranjan Acharya who stressed the importance of IP awareness and education for innovators, creators and business drivers, Prof. Srividhya Ragavan from Texas A&M University School of Law delivered an enlightening inaugural address. She outlined how strategic usage of IP can extend the royalty period of innovations, analogizing IP strategies as tires, which help innovations move forward, rather than laying inert. She explained how strategic usage of IP can help optimize the portfolio and serve as a foundational asset for any new business or enterprise.
Shri Prakalpa Sharma, Deputy Registrar (Law) at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, offered a unique perspective, describing IP as a “bundle of rights” interplaying off of each other, and emphasized modernizing the IP registration system to reduce burdens on creators and allow them to focus on innovation.
Prof (Dr) Avinash Dadhich, Founding Director of the School of Law, shared his vision for a law school which, while serving as a centre of excellence and education for legal aspirants, also serves as a source of legal awareness and legal capacity-building for non-law professions and the general public, emphasizing industry-academia collaboration and the institution’s commitment to Viksit Bharat 2047.
Special thanks also to Asst. Professor Aatman Shukla for their efforts in organizing and anchoring the seminar under Prof. (Dr.) Avinash Dadhich’s guidance.
