Distinguished Honorary Professor & Chairperson, Global Advisory Board – Aviation Law & Management Vertical
Prof. (Dr.) iur. Elmar M. Giemulla is internationally regarded as one of the most distinguished authorities in aviation law. As co-editor and co-author of the standard reference work on national, European, and international air law, he has, for over three decades, been one of the world’s most sought-after experts in this field. He teaches air law at the Berlin University of Technology and at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona), and has served as a legal advisor to courts, corporations, and governments across continents.
Admitted to the bars of both New York and Berlin, Prof. Giemulla has been instrumental in shaping aviation legal systems across the European Union, as well as in countries such as Türkiye, India, and Afghanistan, and has served as a legal advisor to the German Government on drone operations. His extensive expertise includes representing victims and families in major global aviation disaster cases —from Lockerbie and 9/11 to Air France 447 and Germanwings.
Beyond academia and legal practice, he is a certified aviation auditor and President of both the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Germany and the Federal Aviation Security Association (FASAG). He has also served on the Advisory Board of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (Germany’s national air navigation service provider) and currently chairs the Supervisory Board of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Europe GmbH.
At Dhirubhai Ambani University – School of Law, Prof. Giemulla joins as a Distinguished Honorary Professor and Chairperson of the Global Advisory Board of the Aviation Law & Management Vertical, where he will guide academic and strategic initiatives to advance interdisciplinary education, research, and global engagement in the field of aviation law and management.
