
Dr. Shouvik Kumar Guha is an Associate Professor (Law & Technology) at The West Bengal National university of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), along with his position as Non-Resident Fellow at the School of Law – Dhirubhai Ambani University. He is also the Founding Director of the Centre for Law, Literature and Popular Culture, the Associate Director of the Centre for Aviation and Space Laws, and the Assistant Director of the Centre for Financial and Regulatory Governance Studies, the Centre for Competition Laws and Centre for Law and Technology at NUJS.
He also has the distinction of being a TEDx speaker, a Senior Research Fellow (Non-Resident) at the Vidhi Centre for Law & Policy, Associate Research Fellow (Non-Resident) at the Centre for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CeRAI), IIT Madras, a Visiting Faculty at the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur, and at the Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak, as well as an Honorary Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Advancing Intelligence (IAI) of TCG Centres for Research and Education in Science and Technology (TCG CREST). He has also served as the Director (Operations), Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) in the past, and been an independent legal consultant with various law firms, companies, regulatory bodies and non-governmental organisations in India since 2010. His areas of interest include corporate and financial laws, law and technology (with special focus on artificial intelligence), law, literature & popular culture and competition law.
Dr. Guha is also the current Country Correspondent for India for the International Company and Commercial Law Review, Sweet & Maxwell, UK, and holds membership with the Indian Association of Law and Economics, the Network of Indian Competition Experts –Cartel Working Group (NICE-CWG) created by the Competition Commission of India, the IP and Innovation Researchers of Asia Network (IPIRA), the Steering Committee for the global SMART (Sustainable Market Actors for Responsible and the Coalition for Responsible Evolution of AI (CoRE-AI). He has also served as a member of an Expert Committee to review UNESCO’s Global Toolkit for judicial operators on artificial intelligence, as part of the UNESCO’s AI & Rule of Law Programme.
He is also a peer reviewer of some of the globally and nationally renowned journals like the Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (Springer Nature), Artificial Intelligence and Law (Springer), the Journal of World Intellectual Property (Wiley), the Socio-Economic Review (OUP), the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) Rolling Review, ACL SemEval 2024, EACL-DravidianLangTech 2024, the Journal of National Law University, Delhi, the NLS Business Law Review, the Journal of Indian Law & Society, the Indonesian Journal of Social and Environmental Issues, the Swiss Chinese Law Review Journal, the International Journal of Public Law and Policy (InderScience), the International Journal of Intellectual Property Management (InderScience) and the NLIU Journal of Research in Competition Law & Policy. He has authored till date over a hundred publications including edited volumes, articles, book chapters and conference papers published by some of the journals (including SCOPUS, Web of Science and UGC CARE indexed journals) and publishers of national and international repute.
He has also been a part of multiple major and minor research projects including interdisciplinary and collaborative projects in the domain of corporate and financial laws, law and technology, AI and law, outer space law, competition law, and law & literature, together with researchers from the various IITs, IIMs, IISER, Jadavpur University, as well as multiple foreign universities.
